16 Reputed Fatah al-Islam Members Face Criminal Charges

On June 21, 2007, Lebanese State Prosecutor Saeed Mirza filed charges against 16 suspected Fatah al-Islam members, including the group's alleged leader, Shaker Youssef al-Abssi, who is still at large.

The defendants include 9 Syrians, two Lebanese, two Palestinians (including one woman) and one Saudi fighter. Nine of the suspects charged Thursday are currently in Lebanese custody.

Attorney General for the Council of Justice Judge Saeed Mirza charged the 16 defendants and the verdict in absentia, saying that “the attacks on two buses in Ain Alaq on February 13, 2007, resulted in deaths and injury to a number of people."

The suspects are:

    1. Mustafa Ibrahim Xu (Syrian), his mother is Khadija, born in 1983, being held in Roumieh prison since March 20, 2007.
    2. Kamal Farid unhappiness (Syrian), mother Madiha, a Syrian born in 1980, being held in Roumieh prison since March 20, 2007.
    3. Owner Fred unhappiness (Syrian), and mother born in 1992 Madiha Syrian being held in Roumieh prison since March 20, 2007.
    4. Yasser Mohammed Al Shuqairi (Syrian),, his mother Rahmah, a Syrian born in 1973, being held in Roumieh prison since March 20, 2007.
    5. Ahmed Haji Abdullah Al-Mahmoud (Syrian),, his mother, Mary, born in 1970 in Syria, was arrested on April 4, 2007 and is being held in Palace of Justice in Beirut.
    6. Firas Said Haji Mahmoud (Syrian), born in 1982 was arrested on April 4, 2007 and is being held in the Palace of Justice in Beirut.
    7. Stronghold Ghazi Causeways (Syrian),, and the conclusion of his mother, a Syrian born in 1980, was arrested on on April 16, 2007 and is being held in Roumieh prison.
    8. Hussein Daoud Al-Zayat (Lebanese), his mother Fatma, a Lebanese born in 1970, is being held in Palace of Justice in Beirut since April 16, 2007.
    9. Master Ghattas Knight (Palestinian), and her mother status, a Palestinian born in 1974, held at the women's prison since April 17, 2007.
    10. Shaker Yousef Hassan Al-Absi (Palestinian), his mother, Fatima, born in 1955, Jericho, a Palestinian Jordanian, charged in absentia since April 23, 2007 (still being sought).
    11. Magdeddin Abdel-Hai Abboud (Syrian), mother Latifa, born in 1979, a Syrian charged in absentia since April 23, 2007 (still being sought).
    12. El Hadji Mohammad Nasr (Syrian), mother Mary, aged approximately 30 years old Syrian, charged in absentia in the history 04/05/2007 (still being sought).
    13. Saleh Ali Omar extreme Mohannadi (Saudi), born in 1981, charged in absentia since April 23, 2007 (still being sought).
    14. Ahmed Tawfik al-Hiti (Palestinian), mother Jamal, a Palestinian born in 1981, was charged in absentia since April 23, 2007 (still being sought).
    15. Mubarak Ghazi Causeways (Syrian), born in 1986, Hama, Syria, charged in absentia since April 23, 2007 (still being sought).
    16. Shihab Khadr Kaddour a/k/a Abu Hureira (Lebanese, mother scenic images, born in 1971 Mish-Mish, Lebanon, charged in absentia since April 23, 2007 (still being sought).

The suspects are accused by the investigation authorities to have instigated, caused, or plotted, be involved or evil or instigator, pursuant to Articles / 270 / and / 271 / and / 549 / and / 549 / 201 / and / 217 / and / 218 / and / 219 / penalties and provisions of the Code and Article 11/01/1958 / 76 / of the Arms Act.

They are charged with forming a gang to commit crimes against people and property, undermining the state’s authority and prestige, and manufactured, acquired, and had in their possession explosive materials, and carried out terrorist acts, which,

They did on February 13, 2007 to commit two terrorist bombings inside buses in the town of Ain Alaq - in the Manna community district - carrying passengers, killing three and wounding others Ashjas and damage to cars and property and public roads.

The crimes set forth in Articles / 270 / and / 271 / and / 549 / and / 201 / and / 217 / and / 218 / and / 219 / of the Penal Code and the provisions of law 11/01/1958, Article / 76 / of the Arms Act."

State Prosecutor Mirza requested the magistrate "to conduct investigations and questioning we saw the demands for a statement."
